how to wear your maxi dress into cooler weather
|This jean jacket, I swear, I have gotten SO much wear out of. And I remember agonising over whether or not to buy it (budgetary restrictions). I am so glad that I erred on the side of purchase!
I am thinking of doing a series on closet staples — items that you work into new looks over and over again — and this jacket will be item #1!
It's worked exceptionally well with so many outfits, and will probably be used more as the weather gets cooler.
Now that — dare I say it — Autumn is looming, the mornings and evenings are getting a little chillier. Soon enough, its gonna be a little milder all day long. But that doesn't mean you have to tuck away all your maxi dresses right away.
I think that jean jackets are one of the best "toppers" to wear with a maxi dress, because most maxi dresses have an inherent casualness to them that would make them look odd with something like a blazer. Even if your maxi dress is a little on the dressier side (like a plain black one) a jean jacket is a perfect topper.
However, when it comes to shoes, unless it is a black jersey maxi dress (which you could conceivably wear with knee-high boots: stiletto heel, though) you kinda have to pair them with sandals/wedges. I cannot envision a closed toe shoe that would look appropriate with the typical summery/patterned maxi dress.
I'm happy to be schooled though, if you can...
