K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid)
I feel like I need to simplify things, sartorially. I have this idea in my head (most of the time) that the only time an ensemble is going to be really successful, is if it includes 4 or 5 thoughtfully chosen pieces. Like, the perfect pants + top + shoes + scarf + hat, etc, etc, etc. But then, sometimes, a lightbulb will go off in my brain (usually only after seeing someone else simplify things; like Marlena of Make Up Geek) that sometimes simple is best. I don't know what video it was of hers that I was recently watching, but (aside from perfect makeup) she was wearing a simple white blouse, with some detail at the neckline. Didn't see what else she was wearing, but it was clean, and simple and chic.
Now, I'm not saying that I am over -the-top all the time or anything, but I guess I just need to remember to K.I.S.S. sometimes.
This outfit was an attempt to do that. I wore it before, quite similarly, here, and it wasn't one of my favourites. You should check out the post if you haven't seen this shirt before, because THE SLEEVES! I didn't take pics this time, but I did last time...
Maybe its my own neuroses, but as an amply-figured woman, I tend to steer clear of flowy pieces without any real structure. But, crazily enough, I got TONS of compliments yesterday. Well, not tons, but at least two people remarked on how I looked (positively). It really threw me, but at the same time, it cemented the idea that sometimes, just a nice blouse will do the trick. And it doesn't have to have structure, or be darted, or be fitted or tucked.
Sometimes the effort is the nice part about dressing well, knowing you did thoughtfully pull an ensemble together, and sometimes, its just nice to feel good in what you are wearing, and not have to work so hard at it.
